Arcadia – Care & Cleaning

Materials that grow with time

Arcadia combines three carefully selected materials — galvanised steel, teak and terracotta. Each responds naturally to light, weather and everyday use, gradually developing its own character over time.

Small variations in colour, texture and patina are expected and should be seen as part of the product’s natural ageing rather than imperfections.

Quick Care Summary
Teak

Clean with mild soapy water. Oil if you wish to preserve the original warm colour.

Terracotta

Colour variation and patina are natural. Empty tray shelves before frost.

Galvanised Steel

Wipe clean with mild soapy water. Minimal maintenance required.

Before you start

Place Arcadia on a level, stable surface and always secure the shelving system to the wall using fixings suitable for your wall type.

Check screws and fittings regularly and tighten if necessary.

Distribute the weight evenly across the shelving system and avoid overloading individual shelves. Always follow the recommended load limits.

Never climb, stand, sit or hang on the shelving system.

How do I care for teak?

Each teak shelf is unique, with natural variations in colour and grain that are part of the wood’s character. Teak is naturally rich in oils, making it well suited for both indoor and outdoor use.

Clean with a soft cloth or brush using mild soapy water.

If left untreated outdoors, the wood will gradually develop a beautiful silvery-grey patina. This is completely natural and does not affect its durability.

If you prefer to maintain the original warm golden tone, teak oil may be applied periodically.

How do I care for terracotta?

Terracotta is a breathable natural material that helps create healthy growing conditions for plants.

Over time the surface may develop variations in colour, mineral markings or a natural patina depending on watering, climate and exposure to the elements. These changes are expected and give each piece its unique character. Small variations in shape, including slight bowing of the shelves, are a natural characteristic of fired terracotta and do not affect the function or durability of the product.

Clean with warm water and a soft brush when needed. Avoid harsh cleaning agents.

Can the tray shelf hold water?

The watertight terracotta tray shelf is designed for watering plants directly in the tray. It is also ideal for plants that benefit from bottom watering. For outdoor use, always empty standing water before periods of frost.

How do I care for galvanised steel?

Galvanised steel requires very little maintenance. Clean with a damp cloth and mild soapy water when needed.

When used outdoors, galvanised steel gradually develops a softer, darker appearance as it responds to its surroundings. Small surface variations and marks from the hot-dip galvanising process are natural characteristics of the material and do not affect its durability or performance.

How should I care for the Soil Bin?

The Soil Bin is designed to collect excess potting soil during planting.

Small drainage holes in the bottom allow water to escape, helping prevent moisture from collecting inside the bin. It is therefore intended for dry potting soil and gardening waste rather than water storage.

Clean with water and a soft cloth as required.

Will Arcadia change over time?

Yes. Arcadia is designed to age gracefully. Small variations in colour, texture, shape and patina are expected and are part of the design—not defects.

Teak will gradually turn silvery grey if left untreated, terracotta will deepen in tone, and galvanised steel will develop a natural patina. These changes reflect the materials’ natural response to their surroundings and are part of the character of the collection.

Can I rearrange or expand my Arcadia?

Yes. Arcadia is a modular system designed to grow with your needs.

Shelves and accessories can be repositioned, replaced or added over time, allowing the system to adapt to new plants, different spaces or changing ways of living.

Additional shelves and accessories are available separately.
